High-Fidelity Manikin
By: Tucker Strow and Nick Kang
How the project started...
Our goal is to provide modern educational technology for underfunded and underrepresented schools. We tackled this issue by creating a High-Fidelity Manikin (a patient simulator utilized for high-quality training in a multitude of different medical procedures and patient cases) at a fraction of the price. This will enable more equitable access to education across the less wealthy regions of Kentucky. With materials and guidance provided in part by "TriStar Greenview Regional Hospital" and our high school's medical department, our STLP team has created an affordable High-Fidelity Manikin for under-served communities. While our project is easy to handle, High-Fidelity Manikins are not common; thus, there is a learning curve, which our website helps to overcome.
Purpose
Our pledge: We pledge to strive to use digital tools in safe, savvy, and social ways that respect the property of others. Our project does not harvest any user data outside of what is directly related to the simulations; the data it does store is only accessible by the educators who created the files. Our project will enhance the scholastic experience for many students, helping to educate the next generation of medical professionals.
To expand technological availability to underfunded and underrepresented communities
To enhance education for the next generation of medical professionals
To overcome financial barriers
Impact
Our project's impact is measured by the integration of our High-Fidelity Manikin into schools' medical programs and its consistent use. We will track this metric based on the number of schools that utilize our manikin as well as the proportion of the coursework that is dependent on our project. Our goal is to enable every school lacking modem equipment to provide a comparable education to their better-funded counterparts.
